GETTING STARTED

Q: What do I need to get started with TrqkIQ™?

A: At least one PRO royalty statement and/or at least one audio file of a music track.  If you don’t have either of these, here are some resources to check out:

How to get your latest PRO statements and get started:

TrqkIQ Tutorial: Getting Started

TrqkIQ Tutorial: General Function and Workflow

Important: When you upload a track, detection is turned Off by default. If you were using our beta trial, detection has been turned off for all of your tracks as part of the upgrade process. Within the Detections page, click on “Manage/Add” and make sure you flip the switch On for the tracks you want to detect.  Detection will remain on for a given track until you turn it off again or your payment plan or trial expires.

To get the most value out of TrqkIQ, you’ll want to upload your on-air tracks and turn On detections immediately and keep them current so you can take advantage of Gap Analysis as soon as possible. See “GAP ANALYSIS” section below for more details.

STATEMENTS

Q: Does Trqk support PROs outside of the US, like SOCAN, SACEM, PRS, or GEMA?

A: For statement analytics, we currently support ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC. We plan to add support for PROs in other territories over time.  IMPORTANT: Global on-air detection can be used via a BASIC plan with ANY PRO affiliation. Simply upload tracks and no statements on the BASIC plan.

Q: Is there a size limit on the PRO statements that I can upload to Trqk?

A: No! Statement uploads used to be limited to 12 MB, however in early 2022 we expanded this support to remove any size restrictions. Please let us know if you have any issues ingesting your statements.

Q: Why don’t my royalties on the Statements page match the Works page?

A: You may be looking at different sets of data. The Works page is a global set of tracks for an entity. Entities are determined by your writer or publisher affiliations and are selectable in the Entity Selector in the upper right corner. On the Statements page, data views are specific to the selected statements. Statements are selected in the Statement Selector at the top middle of the page.

Q: Can I alter the data in my statements?

A: No. If you change any header or column title data in your statements, Trqk will likely reject the statement. If you change any of the data content, like your payment amount, performance counts, or source, your data will not be accurate and will generate inaccurate results.

Q: Some of my statements didn't upload. What happened?

A: There are a few reasons your statements can fail to upload:

  • Incorrect file type. Trqk supports CSV format statements.

  • Unsupported PRO. Trqk supports statements from ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC.

  • Statement too large. Currently, Trqk supports statements up to 12 MB.

  • Duplicate statement.  If you have already uploaded a statement for a given period, Trqk will flag that and not allow you to re-upload it.

If a statement encounters an error while uploading, you should see an error message that explains why.  Additionally, you can check for statement alerts by clicking Alerts in the Manage Statements window.

Q. Does Trqk support international performances?

A: We currently support international performances reported from ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC.

BMI ADJUSTMENT STATEMENTS

Q: BMI sometimes issues more than four statements per year for adjustments. Will I be able to upload those statements to Trqk?

A: Currently, Trqk can ingest the four regular quarterly distribution statements.

PRIVACY / SECURITY

Q: What safeguards do you have to protect my data?  Do you sell your user’s data?

A: We take data privacy and security very seriously.  No user data is sold, nor is it shared with anyone other than for purposes of delivering our cloud-based service to you.  Our privacy policy is here: Privacy — Trqk.  Additionally, we encrypt your statements while they are stored in our system, and employ industry-leading security techniques that we are constantly improving to keep your information safe.

PRICING

Q: How much does Trqk cost?

A:  We offer a 14-day free trial.  After that, if you like it, we make it easy to subscribe with a credit card from right within the app. After you upload your statements and tracks, go to the “Payment Plan” tab under Account / Settings and you can see exactly what your fees will be to proceed on a paid plan.

You can see our Pricing page for more details.

Q: On the statement side, I see that your fees are based on my most recent quarterly royalties. How does that work exactly?

A: When you upload all of your statements, we add up the most recent royalties (domestic + international) across all of your entities and use that as the basis for determining your plan and any additional royalty capacity that is required.

Important — you only pay for capacity for your most recent quarter — there is no additional charge to upload and analyze any number of historical statements prior to your most current. To get maximum value from the system, we recommend you upload all of your historical statements during your free trial, and then every quarter, you can simply upload the most recent statement(s) from your PRO when they arrive. We will keep you updated on statement release schedules to make it easy.

DETECTIONS AND TRACKS

Q:  How long does it take for detections to show up in TrqkIQ™?

A:  It may take up to 24 hours after you start detection for your track(s) to be live in the detection system.

Q: Is there a limit to the number of on-air detection tracks I can have?

A: Yes; TrqkIQ Indie Edition™ has a maximum of 5,000 detection tracks per account at this time.

Q: How long do you keep an archive of video/audio reference material?

A: TrqkIQ Indie Edition™ currently archives for one month after a performance occurs.

Q: How many tracks can I upload, and how many at a time?

A: It depends on your plan.

  • In the free trial, you can upload up to 40 tracks, and turn on detection for up to 20 of those.

  • After the free trial is complete, you may upload up to twice the number of tracks for which you are licensed to detect, based upon your plan and add-ons.

Q: How many stations do you analyze?  What regions do you support?

A: We analyze over 300 channels across 20 countries:

United States
United Kingdom
Germany
France
Brazil
Canada
Netherlands
Italy
Australia
Denmark
Sweden
Mexico
Switzerland
Finland
Belgium
Spain
Poland
South Africa
Austria
Norway
India
Japan

We also have the ability to ingest historical detection data from multiple audio content recognition (ACR)  systems to contribute to our gap analysis. This feature is available in TrqkIQ Publisher Edition™

Q: Is your TV and radio monitoring feature the same technique as used by other vendors?

A: Our system uses digital audio fingerprinting, similar to other vendors in the ACR business.

Q: What is the difference between Trqk and BMAT?

A: BMAT is our best-in-class strategic detection partner which we have integrated into our system. Our Music Royalty Intelligence platform offers the ability to examine multiple large data sets (royalty statements, on-air detections, sync licensing data), etc., so you can think of it as an analytics engine that sits on top of BMAT and other data sources.

Q: Can we get data from songs that we do not currently own?

A: If you have access to performance royalties data for those tracks, we can analyze it. You must, however, have sufficient rights to any data or tracks that you upload. For more details, see our Terms of Use.

GAP ANALYSIS

Q: How do Detections and Gap Analysis work?

A: Gap Analysis reports the differences Trqk found between your track detections and your PRO reported performances

A few important notes on this:

  1. There are two ways to perform a Gap Analysis: A) using Trqk sourced detections, or B) using BMAT sourced detections (Publisher Edition only).

    A. Trqk sourced detections. Our detection system is real-time and forward-looking.  PRO statements are reports of performances three to twelve months after the time of performance.  In order to do a gap analysis, you will need to upload the audio files that correspond to your statement’s works that you believe to be on-air. Then enable them for detection for at least one complete PRO detection cycle. PRO detection cycles correspond with calendar quarters. You will do this in the Detections Manager.

    B. BMAT or TuneSat sourced detections. If you are a subscriber to TrqkIQ Publisher Edition™, you may run a Gap Analysis against historical BMAT or TuneSat detection exports. This capability allows you to select a performance period and run an analysis immediately.

Q: When can I see my Gap Analysis?

A: The Gap Analysis report will be available after detection data is available for a full PRO reporting period for which you also have uploaded a PRO statement.

Q:  How do I make claims once I find gaps in my historical performances vs. detections?

A:  Each PRO has their own method to make claims for missing royalties.  The Gap Analysis export file has line-item details that you can provide to your PRO to support your claims.

Q: Will Trqk send out reminders for when PRO statements have come out? What is the royalty distribution schedule for each PRO?

A: Yes, we plan to send out email reminders if you have an active account with us. Here is the schedule for each PRO, as per each of their websites:

ASCAP

BMI

SESAC

  • June 30: Royalty Payment for 1st Quarter (Jan-Mar)

  • September 20: Royalty Payment for 2nd Quarter (Apr-Jun)

  • December 31: Royalty Payment for 3rd Quarter (Jul-Sep)

  • March 31: Royalty Payment for 4th Quarter (Oct-Dec)

CUE SHEETS

Q: How does Trqk handle cue sheets?

A: Currently, Trqk detects and analyzes cue sheets as single works.

You can perform the same functions for cue sheets as you can for tracks. We will be working on more granular cue sheet analysis in coming releases.

Q Can I compare cue sheets against royalty statements?

A: By detecting any one of the tracks in a cue sheet for on-air performances, we can match real-time performance data to PRO royalty reporting.

Q: Can Trqk pull out bundled cue payments?

A: Currently, we can analyze a cue sheet performance as a single work against a royalty statement. We will be working on more granular cue sheet analysis in the coming releases.

GENERAL FUNCTIONALITY

Q: Can Trqk confirm co-owner payouts for shared works with shared ownership?

A: Trqk shows each work's ownership splits.

Q: Can Trqk analyze which shows generate the most revenue?

A: Yes. Our charts and insights let you visualize works and performances by program.

TYPES OF ROYALTIES SUPPORTED

Q: Do you also support mechanical data analysis; more specifically, streaming mechanical data analysis?

A: We currently support performance royalties only. We have plans to support mechanicals in coming releases.

PRO RELATIONSHIPS

Q: Does Trqk collect royalties from my PRO?

A: No. We don't collect royalties from your PRO.

Q: Does Trqk report missed royalties to my PRO?

A: No; we alert you to differences between your reported performances and detections that we found. You can use this information to submit a claim to your PRO. Our general recommendation is to focus on fixing the issues that may have caused the royalty shortcoming on a go-forward basis. Of course, on a case-by-case basis, you can decide whether pursuing potential missed back royalties is worthwhile.

MOBILE

Q: Does the app currently work on mobile devices?

A: Our design overall is meant for a clean desktop experience. We plan to have mobile-specific features over time.

TRQKIQ PUBLISHER EDITION™ -- IMPORTANT NOTES ON GAP ANALYSIS

In an effort to produce efficient claims that your PRO will honor, we have added detection filters to remove detections that do not adhere to each PRO’s known (and in some cases published) payment rules.  This list of filters will be adjusted and expanded over time to keep up with the latest payment policies of each PRO.

BMI Detection Filters

  • All detections under 3 seconds are filtered out. We have found that many short-duration BMAT detections for music are false positives, therefore these detections are removed from the report. TuneSat does not include performances under 3 seconds.

SESAC Detection Filters

  • All detections under 3 seconds are filtered out. We have found that many short-duration BMAT detections for music are false positives, therefor these detections are removed from the report. TuneSat does not include performances under 3 seconds.

 ASCAP Detection Filters

  • In general, ASCAP determines whether or not it will pay claims for missed performances based on what the media is and how it was monitored.

  • The type of channel (Network, Cable or Local) and type of media (promo, commercial, PSA, or show) determines whether a performance is monitored by census or sample survey.

  • In general, census survey performances are paid while sample surveyed performances are not.  There are a couple of exceptions to these rules. The chart below explains the specific ASCAP filters, and details of the survey type for each channel. Note that the filters are slightly different, depending on whether you are comparing an ASCAP performance period against a BMAT detection export, or a TuneSat detection export.

ASCAP Detection Filters - BMAT:

Include detections for Ads & Promos

  • If enabled, a Gap Analysis will include detections with use types identified as Ads and Promos by BMAT.

Include detections for Non-Commercial programs

  • If enabled, a Gap Analysis will include detections with use types identified as Non-Commercial (program cues, movies, PSA's) by BMAT.

Apply ASCAP census survey rules

  • ASCAP pays royalties for performances for different types of media (commercial, promo, program, and PSA) based on two types of surveys, census survey and sample survey. A Census Survey is a count of each performance. A Sample Survey is a projection based on a snapshot of a small amount of time (six hours) on a minimum number of channels (4 - 12). Enabling this filter applies ASCAP census survey rules and removes detections not surveyed by census.

Apply ASCAP sample window filtering for published program types

  • ASCAP pays royalties for performances for different types of media (commercial, promo, program, and PSA) based on two types of surveys, census survey and sample survey. A Census Survey is a count of each performance. A Sample Survey is a projection based on a snapshot of a small amount of time (six hours) on a minimum number of channels (4 - 12). Enabling this filter applies ASCAP sample survey rules and removes detections that fall outside of any of the sample survey windows.

Allow detections for local programming on network channels

  • ASCAP is unlikely to pay royalty claims for local programming on network channels. Therefore this setting defaults to disabled, removing these detections from the report. You can choose to enable it, and local programming on network channels will be included.

Include short-duration detections (< 3 seconds)

  • We have found that many short-duration detections for music are false positives. Therefore this option defaults to disabled, removing these detections from the report. This is not always the case, especially for sound design, so short-duration detections will be included if enabled.

Include low confidence BMAT detections in analysis.

  • BMAT assigns a confidence score to detections from 1 to 3. 1 being less confident of a positive detection and 3 being most confident of a positive detection. We have found that many low confident score detections for music are false positives. Therefore this option defaults to disabled, removing these detections from the report. This is not always the case, especially for sound design, so short-duration detections will be included if enabled. Enabling this option will include the less confident detections in your report.

Automatically analyze all channels with more detections than reported performances (will take longer)

  • This is a time-saving feature. The app will automatically analyze all channels with positive gaps if enabled. This option takes a bit longer up front in the analysis. If disabled, each channel you would like to analyze will have to be selected and analyzed one at a time. Upfront processing time is shorter, but there will be processing time between each channel selection.

Automatically analyze all channels with more reported performances a.k.a. 'negative gaps' (will take longer)

  • This is a time-saving feature. If enabled, the app will automatically analyze all channels with negative gaps simultaneously. This option takes a bit longer up front in the analysis. If disabled, each channel you would like to analyze will have to be selected nd analyzed one at a time. Upfront processing time is shorter, but there will be processing time between each channel selection.

ASCAP Detection Filters - TuneSat:

Include detections for SHW

  • If enabled, a Gap Analysis will include detections with use types identified as Shows by TuneSat.

Include detections for COM

  • If enabled, a Gap Analysis will include detections with use types identified as Commercials by TuneSat.

Include detections for PRO

  • If enabled, a Gap Analysis will include detections with use types identified as Promos by TuneSat.

Include detections for INF

  • If enabled, a Gap Analysis will include detections with use types identified as Infomercials by TuneSat.

Include detections for ID

  • If enabled, a Gap Analysis will include detections with use types identified as Station IDs by TuneSat.

Include detections for UNK

  • If enabled, a Gap Analysis will include detections with use types that are unidentified.
